Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to sell my house to come in here?

That decision will depend upon the assets that you have. For further information contact Benhome or see the Aged Community Care website at www.health.gov.au/acc or phone: 1800 500 853

What happens to the bond money?

The accomodation bond is an amount agreed between the residetn and aged care home. There is no fixed amount or formula for determining the bond. However, you cannot be charged a bond which would leave you with less than $35,000 in assets. The bond is refunded (to the person or to their estate) when the person leaves the aged care home, less a maximum of $280 a month for up to five years. You cannot be asked to pay any accomodation bond if you have assets less than $35,000 at the time you enter care.
